Breast Lift Surgery Overview
A woman's breasts can change over time. Breasts that have lost their firm, uplifted contours can affect a woman's self-image and confidence.
What is a Mastopexy?
The official medical term for the breast lift procedure is mastopexy. A breast lift raises the breast and improves breast shape. The surgical procedure, which you can discuss with our surgeons at our Carmel practice located just north of Indianapolis, is approached through a variety of incision patterns and techniques. The appropriate technique for you is based on your breast size and shape, the size and position of the areola, the degree of sagging present, and your skin quality and elasticity.
Following breast lift surgery, swelling and discomfort at the incision sites are common. Discomfort is controlled with medication. A support bra may be required after surgery. You may return to work 5-10 days as long as there is no heavy lifting. As you heal, swelling will decrease and incision lines will fade.
The final results of a breast lift are apparent immediately. Over time however, your breasts can continue to change due to aging and gravity. The best way to maintain your lift is by maintaining your weight and a healthy life style.
