Breast Reduction- When Less is More By Carmel Cosmetic and Plastic Surgeons on September 03, 2019

Some women have issues with breasts that are too large or are poorly proportioned with the rest of their body. The issue with body contour can cause women to be quite self-conscious and it can even make buying clothes a hassle. In these cases, breast reduction surgery or reduction mammoplasty, is an option that results in less being so much more!!

In some cases, the breasts may be so large that they cause back pain, neck pain, or shoulder pain. This is called symptomatic macromastia. Large breasts may also cause difficulties with skin irritation or infection underneath the breasts.

When the breasts are overly large or poorly proportioned or when the breasts are so large as to cause symptomatic macromastia, there is always the option of breast reduction surgery (also known as reduction mammaplasty). When you visit us we will assess your candidacy for breast reduction surgery. The surgery will remove excess skin and tissue of the breasts in order to achieve a shape that is more proportionate. After breast reduction, the curves of your body should better complement each other.

If the symptoms are severe enough and proposed amount of tissue to be removed by your surgeon meet your health insurance’s criteria and policy, breast reduction surgery might be considered medically necessary and be a covered benefit.

During the consultation process with Dr. Grasee or Dr. Bergman, we’ll be able to discuss all of your options with you in more detail. Your needs will differ from the needs of other patients and it is only in person that we can fully assess your needs and figure out how they can be best met.

Contact us to schedule a consultation if you feel breast reduction surgery may be for you.
