Laser Skin Resurfacing

As you age and gain sun exposure, you may find that you wish your skin could be smoother and more even toned.  Laser resurfacing can help with fine lines around the eyes and mouth, acne scaring, and uneven pigmentation.

What Is Laser Resurfacing?

Laser resurfacing is performed by a carbon dioxide laser which vaporizes the upper layer of damaged skin.  New cells form during the healing process and the result is a fresher, smoother complexion.  Some people require repeated procedures to achieve the desired result.  The procedure is most commonly performed under general anesthesia.

Following surgery your healing skin will be protected by either bandages or protective ointment.  You will experience mild to moderate swelling.  Ice packs and medication will help with discomfort.  For the first three weeks, your skin will be bright pink to red. After 1 month, the redness will subside and you will begin to appreciate your more youthful appearance.  Some pinkness may remain for 3-4 months.
