Facelift Surgery Overview
The loss of youthful contours of our most valuable feature, our face, can greatly impact how we feel about ourselves. If you are bothered by signs of aging in your face, a facelift may be right for you. We would be happy to discuss your goals and surgical options at our office in Carmellocated just north of Indianapolis.
What Is a Facelift?
A facelift, technically known as a rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure to improve visible signs of aging of the face and neck. A facelift is designed to restore a more youthful, rested appearance with uplifted contours and improved tone of the facial skin and the underlying muscle.
Consultation with one of our surgeons is the first step to learn how a facelift can improve facial aging. A facelift is a highly individualized procedure. A traditional procedure restores the mid-face, jowls and neck, allowing excess skin to be removed. Incisions, for the most part, are well hidden. Potential risks and complications will be fully discussed prior to your procedure.
After surgery, you may note that a thin tube was placed to drain any excess blood or fluid that may collect under the skin. This drainage tube is usually removed within 24 hrs of your procedure. Initial healing will include swelling and may include numbness and discomfort that can be controlled with medication. You may return to work and resume normal, light activities in 2-4 weeks. Swelling may take several more months to fully resolve.
Diligent sun protection and a healthy lifestyle will help extend the results of your rejuvenated face.
