Thigh Lift Surgery Overview
Despite weight loss or fitness efforts, you cannot always achieve the body image you desire. Many factors can lead to saggy thighs or irregular contours of the thighs and lower body. A surgical thigh lift can help your legs attain a firmer, more youthful appearance. To learn more about this procedure contact us at our Carmel practice located just north of Indianapolis.
What Is a Thigh Lift?
A thigh lift is a surgical procedure that treats the inner (medial) thighs, the outer (lateral) thighs, or both. A thigh lift reshapes the thighs by repositioning underlying supportive structures and by removing excess skin. Liposuction is commonly performed in combination with a thigh lift to reduce fat that contributes to disproportionate body contours. Your thigh lift will be individualized to your specific condition and the region to be treated. To treat the inner thigh, incisions often extend from the groin downward on the inside of the thigh, possibly to the knee. To treat the outer thigh, incisions may be made in a bikini pattern from the groin across the hips to the buttocks.
Following surgery, one or more small drainage tubes may be placed temporarily to drain excess fluid or blood that may collect. The healing process will include bruising, swelling, and discomfort which is controlled with medication. You can expect to return to work and normal activities within a few weeks. No heavy lifting or vigorous exercise for 4-6 weeks. It is recommended that you avoid sun exposure during the healing process as this will allow your incision lines to become less conspicuous.
Results of a thigh lift are visible almost immediately. However, it may take several months for your final results to fully develop. The scars will seem like a fair trade-off for your new firmer and well-proportioned body image.
