Chemical Peels

Chemical Peel Overview

Chemical peels enhance the tone and texture of your skin by removing the damaged outer layer with a chemical solution, leaving it softer and younger looking. Our aesthetician will discuss which chemical peel best suits your desired result.

Some patients may seek a mild formula of Alphahydroxy acids (AHAs), such as glycolic, lactic, or fruit acids. These chemical peels have the benefit of making skin smoother, brighter and more even-toned, plus they reduce fine lines and acne, and slough off dry skin. AHA treatments can be formulated as a daily facial cleanser or in stronger weekly or monthly concentrations. Our surgeons can discuss which concentration will give you the best result. You may experience temporary stinging and redness.

For a medium-depth peel to diminish fine lines, blemishes or skin discoloration, Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is commonly recommended. You may need several treatments to achieve the look you desire. Keep in mind that you will need to protect your skin from the sun for several months after treatment to protect the new layers of skin. You may experience temporary stinging, redness and crusting with a medium depth peel, but your skin will adjust with treatments.

Phenol peels are the strongest solution available, offering the deepest treatment. For this reason, this procedure is most often performed at a certified outpatient surgical center under monitored anesthesia. Phenol peels lighten the skin, and there is a risk of skin discoloration, which may determine whether or not Phenol is right for your skin type. Furthermore, it is better suited for application on facial skin as it may scar skin on other body areas. Phenol is a good option for patients with no history of heart problems that have coarser wrinkles, blotchy, sun-damaged and/or pre-cancerous skin growths. Be aware that after a Phenol peel the skin often loses its ability to tan, meaning that you'll always have to protect your skin from the sun.

We here at Carmel Cosmetic and Plastic Surgeons will review all of your options and create the precise formula and skin treatment to best suit you.
