What is ArteFill? ArteFill is a dermal filler made of bovine collagen and is the first and only dermal filler designed for the restoration of facial volume and fullness as well as correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds that does not get absorbed into the body. ArteFill is indicated for the correction of facial wrinkles known as nasolabial folds or smile lines. The procedure is minimally invasive and topical and/or injectable, local anesthesia is used to decrease discomfort. After treatment, some redness or swelling may last for up to 7 days. The rejuvenating effects of ArteFill last greater than one year. Some people should not receive ArteFill, including those who have a positive reaction to the ArteFill collagen skin test; have a history of severe allergies manifested by a history of anaphylaxis, or history or presence of multiple severe allergies; are allergic to the anesthetic (lidocaine); have a history of allergies to any bovine collagen products; are undergoing or planning to undergo desensitization injections to meat products; or are prone to thick scar formation and/or excessive scarring.
